Experiences from the Workshop

PW

Prawit Wattana

Bangkok · Watch Collector

"I brought in a 1960s Swiss automatic that had been sitting in a drawer for years. The team photographed it on intake, sent me a clear note about what they planned to do, and asked specifically about the dial ageing before doing anything to the case. That's the kind of question that tells you a lot about a workshop."

"My father's chronograph came back running well and with a service record I could actually read. One minor thing — the turnaround was a week longer than expected, but they contacted me to let me know before it became a surprise. Comfortable recommending them for anything complicated."

"Crystal replacement and a light case clean on a dress watch. Simple enough job, but the reason I'd go back is the pre-work assessment — they showed me exactly which scratches they could address and which they'd leave, and asked what I preferred. Came back exactly as discussed."

"Three watches in over two years, including a vintage calendar piece that needed sourcing of a replacement date wheel. They found one, contacted me before ordering, and documented what had been replaced and why. That documentation is something I value — makes a real difference when reselling."

"Routine service on my grandfather's hand-wound watch. I was nervous about leaving it with anyone. The intake receipt they gave me listed the watch's condition in detail, which made a difference. The work was thorough — timing results were included in the paperwork returned with it."

"I appreciated that they didn't try to upsell a full refinish when I brought in my field watch. Assessed it, told me the crystal was the only thing that needed attention, quoted only for that. There's a kind of honesty in not adding unnecessary work to a job."

Case Studies

Longer Stories

Three examples of what the work actually involved — the challenge, the approach, and what came out the other side.

Case 01 — Heritage Overhaul

The Situation

A 1974 Swiss automatic with a moon phase complication, inherited from an uncle who'd bought it new in Geneva. The movement hadn't been serviced in at least fifteen years and was running nearly ten minutes slow per day. The owner wanted it working again but was concerned about over-polishing the patinated case.

What Was Done

Full movement overhaul with calibre-specific documentation at each stage. The moon phase mechanism was serviced without replacement — all original components were viable. Case was left unpolished per the owner's request; only the sapphire crystal was replaced. Service record produced covering all decisions.

Outcome

Movement regulated to +4 seconds per day across five positions. Moon phase tracking confirmed accurate. Patina fully preserved. Completed in 28 working days. Owner noted the stage-by-stage documentation was the most thorough they'd seen from any workshop in Bangkok.

"The documentation alone was worth the service. Now I know exactly what was done, what condition the movement is in, and what to watch for in the next few years."

— Wiroj K., Pattaya

Case 02 — Routine Service

The Situation

A Japanese automatic that had been worn daily for eight years without any service. Running reliably but the power reserve had dropped noticeably and timekeeping was inconsistent — gaining time in the morning, losing it by evening. Owner suspected it just needed cleaning.

What Was Done

Full disassembly, ultrasonic component cleaning, and fresh lubrication throughout. The mainspring was assessed — showing some set but within serviceable range — and retained. Gaskets inspected; one was replaced at no additional charge. Regulated on timing machine in six positions.

Outcome

Power reserve returned to full capacity. Timing variance reduced to ±6 seconds per day across positions. Completed in 11 working days. Owner noted the watch was running more consistently than at any point since purchase.

"Straightforward service, but done properly. The timing sheet they gave me back showed exactly what the watch was doing before and after. Simple but useful."

— Somchai C., Bangkok
